Mississippi County Arts Council
The Mississippi County Arts Council is committed to bringing quality cultural entertainment to Osceola. Performances sponsored by the Arts Council in recent years include the Memphis Symphony, the Arkansas Repertory Theatre, "Up With People," "Steel Magnolias," The Peking Acrobats, the U.S. Navy Band, and "Pirates of Penzance." The Arts Council is also active in the Artist-in-Residence program, sponsoring artists around the nation to live and perform in the community. In addition to performing in concert, these artists also perform for the local schools as part of their residency.
Mississippi County Courthouse
Located in central Mississippi County adjacent to the Mississippi River, Osceola is the original County Seat of Mississippi County. Constructed in 1912, the Mississippi County Courthouse (located on the downtown Square of Osceola) is located on the National Register of Historic Places. The dome was restored in 1991.
The Mississippi County Historical Center is housed in the historic Fred Patterson Store Building built in 1904. This building housed the Patterson Dry Goods Store from 1904 through 1987. In 1993, the building was named the Mississippi County Historical Center. Permanent exhibits have been placed in the Historical Center to be enjoyed by the citizens of Mississippi County and their friends and visitors.
Osceola Public Library
Osceola is a member of the Mississippi County Library System. The Osceola Library offers over 30,000 volumes, over 75 magazine and newspaper subscriptions, public Internet and other computing access, activities and programs for children, youth, and adults, and is open seven days a week.
Winter Festival
On the first Thursday after Thanksgiving, Osceola holds its annual Winter Festival. This event features live music, a kiddie carnival, celebrity guests, and several food merchants and is held in downtown Osceola. The highlight of the Winter Festival is the Parade which is the finest in Northeast Arkansas. The parade follows the lighting of the Christmas tree on the grounds of the historic County Court House. Buildings in the central business district are also decorated with lights during the holiday season.
